We wanted to order some sparkling water at dinner last night. (I wanted a beer too, but ordering water was using using all available resources)
We had a couple phrase books and debated on the phrase for a while. Jennifer had the phrase Suda Shui which should have asked for sparkling water. To the waiter, apparently it meant boiling water, and to just go ahead and put it in our glasses. Not cups, but glasses.
So then I tried, I used the open book and point method to Kuàngquán qìshuì. This apparently means nothing according to google translate. However, it did score us 3 bottles of regular water and an odd look from the waiter. I think her just assumed that we must want some form of water that Americans ask for.
After that, I wasn't even going to try to ask for a beer.
