We are a family that have been expecting our second child for over four years now. We started the adoption process in the spring of 2006, submitted our paperwork to China in September of 2006 and have been waiting patiently for a child since. We finally we got our referral and plan to have the process completed and travel to China this coming spring!

You got some 'splainin to do

While waiting for so long for this adoption I pretty throughly researched every bit of Shamin Island where we are staying. I knew from all the previous families that the one place all the Americans go is Lucy's Cafe. I swore we wouldn't go there. Who needs badly done American food at a high price. I was serious that we would not go to Lucy's.

However, I caved. It is the only place here that serves mixed drinks and Jennifer wanted a Margarita. I saw they had draft beer. That is unheard of here too. I do like the $1 pearl River beers, but a $3 pint of Carlsberg, served cold (most drinks here are not served very cold) sounded great on a hot and humid day here where we could sit at outdoor tables in the park. I justified that if I didn't get American food, then I was still ok. I got the dried BBQ squid. I figured that I was choosing wisely since the waitress suggested that I won't like it.

The place was just as expected. The food was not great, the fries were good though, and that dried BBQ squid? It was like squid jerky but the beer was good.
